The National Information Technology Development Agency
(NITDA) on Thursday certified Rig Communication Ltd, a local manufacturer of
computers and cell phones, for operation in Lagos.
Mr Peter Jack, the Director-General of the agency, who
presented the provisional licence to the company, expressed delight with the
achievement.
He added that it was gratifying to witness such a reputable
company commence the production of computers and phones for local consumption
in the country.
Jack said that there had been challenges in the development
aspect of the industry, adding that the agency was happy to be associated with
the company, with an adequate framework to drive the industry to greater
heights.
“The journey of Information Technology has just started; but
we must acknowledge that in the beginning, there were severe challenges in the
development aspect of the industry.
“Without adequate framework, it would be difficult to drive
the software industry. We are happy to associate with the Rig Communication
Ltd.
“I think that with the provisional licence, the company will
compete with others in the world,” he said.
Jack urged the company to maintain the high standard of
their products as NITDA had confirmed its reliability, endurance and durability
through its laboratory tests on all its products.
Mr Tosin Ilesanmi, the Regional Director of the company,
appreciated the efforts of the agency by certifying the company for operation.
Ilesanmi said that the company manufactures laptops,
desktops and tablets, which were of world-class standard.
He, however, solicited for support and patronage from
consumers.
