A 45-year-old driver, Ganiyu Afolabi, was yesterday charged
before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling and
impregnating a 16-year-old girl.
This came as 22-year-old Oluwatudimi Folajimi has been
charged before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly forging an
identity card of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, to enable him write exams for
a 400-level student of medicine.
On the rape case, the accused, who lives at Meiran area of
Lagos State, was said to have called the victim to his room under the pretext
of sending her on an errand and defiled her.
The suspect was arraigned by the police on a three-count
charge of sexual assault, defilement and attempt to procure abortion.
However, when the charge was read to the accused before
Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Sgt Jimah Iseghede, informed the court that
the alleged offences were committed in May at the accused’s residence and
contravened Sections 137, 145 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded in
prison custody until September 9 when the court would rule on his bail
application.
The 22-year-old alleged impersonator was arraigned on
a-three-count charge of felony to wit, forgery and examination malpractice, but
he pleaded not guilty.
The magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Erinle, granted the accused bail
in the sum of N80,000.
