BlackBerry announced today in a blog post that it plans on rolling out monthly updates and hotfixes ahead of Google's monthly security report that exposes vulnerabilities in Android software.
Essentially, the company is promising to keep you protected from threats you don't know exist, before they're even disclosed to the community at large and possibly used for malicious information attacks.
These updates will be distributed over-the-air via patches that will be made free to customers who purchased the phone through BlackBerry's website or any Priv resellers (carriers and other authorized dealers) that have agreed to participate in the regular monthly update program.
Of course, if the threat is more severe, BlackBerry says it will issue a hotfix as soon as the problem arises - something that could be a full-time job considering the inherent openness of the Android platform.
Should you be a business user (which I'd wager a good majority of potential Priv buyers will be), BlackBerry will give your IT department control over which patches get installed on the Priv devices at your company, eliminating the chance of potential software incompatibilities.
The Priv is due out on November 9 for a SIM free price tag of £559 (US$699, around AU$980).
