Ife Elders Forum and stakeholders of Ile-Ife have appealed to all
aggrieved ruling houses laying claim to the vacant stool to withdraw the
various court cases for amicable resolution of the issues.
The Forum, comprising Ife Elders, royal fathers, princes, head of princes (Ajo Sookoo), Ife Development Board, Ife Progressives Forum, religious leaders and village heads at a meeting, Sunday, declared that the litigations surrounding succession to the throne of Ooni were not in the best interest of Ife.
The forum’s resolution is coming even as the Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Adepele Ojo, yesterday, fixed Friday, October 23, for ruling on applications seeking the court to interpret the 1980 Ife Chieftaincy Declaration and the suit challenging the jurisdiction of the court in entertaining the cases before it.
The meeting was also attended by all the head and representatives of the four ruling houses, including Sookoo Adeleke Adewoyin Walomo, for Lafogido ruling house; Sookoo Aratunde Adeyoju Lelodo, Ogboru ruling house; Sookoo (Mrs) Orafidiya Waboodu, Osinkola ruling house, and Sookoo Adewoyin Owoyomi Aromodagbo, for Giesi ruling house.
Chief Mosadoluwa Omisore and Professor Muib Opeloye, Chairman and Secretary of the forum, respectively, were also in attendance.
At the meeting, all the stakeholders agreed there must be a middle of the road solution to the present grid-lock to the succession.
They observed that the litigations surrounding succession to the throne of Ooni had been affecting the progress of the town.
They, however, suggested that “the Sookos (princes) should appeal to the ruling houses to withdraw the cases in courts in order not to cause undue delay in the selection process.
