Whether you're eyeing a bog-standard laptop or a flashy MacBook Air,
the techradar laptop deals of the week page is where you can find the
best offers on notebooks, neatly organised in six categories to offer
you an intuitive way to find your perfect device. By now, you
will have heard about the hack that hit UK broadband provider, Talktalk.
Details (including credit card details and emails) of more than four
million customers have apparently been accessed by the yet-to-be-named
hacker(s).
On Fridays, even over Christmas and new year, we
update this page to offer you the freshest, latest and most up-to-date
laptop bargains of the last seven days and we're pretty sure we're the
only mainstream UK technology website in the UK to do so.
We
rotate our laptop deals to offer you a more diverse offering and you
will find our laptop deals archives simply by browsing to the next
pages. Just bear in mind that stocks vary and prices can go up or down
since the deals were posted.
Do you think that we have missed out
on a particularly attractive deal? Have you found a better one or is
there a misprice? If that is the case, feel free to leave a note in the
comments section and we'll include it in our deal with a "thank you"
note to the contributor.
1. techradar's laptop deal of the week
HP ProBook 455 G2
Laptop: HP ProBook 455 G2
Price: From £130 from Dabs
For
the second week running, we selected the HP ProBook 455 to be our
laptop deal of the week. The deal lasts for another eight days so you
will need to hurry up as stocks may dwindle fast. Buy that laptop from
online retailer Dabs, fill some paperwork and get up to £225 (£50
straight cashback and £175 for a trade-up). The laptop is a
business-oriented model that carries the code G6W44EA. You will need to
read the terms and conditions for the cashback and trade up as some
strict rules apply. The ProBook 455 G2 uses an AMD A8-7100 APU paired
with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD.
Worth Considering
Deals are not always about grunt. The Lenovo B50-30,
for example, has appeared on this deals page several times before but
this one is a particularly enticing from Ebuyer at £179.99, a price that
includes next day delivery as well as a free copy of Bullguard Internet
security for three users. Nice! The only serious flaw of that laptop at
this price is the processor, a slow Intel Celeron N2840 CPU clocked at
2.16GHz. If you can live with it then the 4GB of RAM, Windows 10 and 500GB hard disk drive will be more than sufficient for most mundane tasks; no games though.
2. Chromebook/Netbook deal of the week
HP Stream 11
Laptop: HP Stream 11 Pro
Price: £149 at CCL
Yet
another week, yet another clean sweep from HP's Stream 11 Pro
Windows-based laptop. The company's "cloud first" design brings in some
business-class features that will be useful for a mobile workforce. From
a minimalist construction to enterprise-grade TPM encryption, the
Stream 11 Pro, which costs £149.98 at CCL, even comes with 200GB of
online cloud storage (courtesy of Microsoft) for 24 months worth over
£90. The specification list however is a familiar one: 2GB of RAM, a
11.6-inch 1366x768 pixel resolution, 32GB primary storage and the
ubiquitous Intel Celeron N2840 processor. For a device that compact, it
did manage to include a surprising number of connectors as well.
Worth considering
Until the end of October, you can grab the Toshiba Chromebook CB30-B for £239.95 at John Lewis,
a better deal compared to last week's one especially as it comes with
double the warranty (two years). There's two features that make this MacBook Air
doppelganger worth buying: 4GB of system memory - a rarity on such a
laptop and the 13.3-inch LED backlit TruBrite display which has a
1920x1080 pixel resolution, far higher than the rest of the competition.
An Intel Celeron N2840, 16GB of storage and 802.11ac connectivity are
also part of the deal.
3. Gaming laptop deal of the week
Medion Erazer X7835
Laptop: Medion Erazer X7835
Price: £1199 at Medion
There
is an untold rule in the world of portable gaming that the more
powerful a gaming laptop is, the bulkier and heavier it will be. Take
the Medion Erazer X7835 for example. This is a beast that weighs nearly
3.5Kg and is over 60mm thick. It is also a powerful gaming notebook, one
that comes with a GTX980M with 4GB of GDDR5 memory, a quad-core
Haswell-based Core i7 processor paired with 16GB of dual-channel RAM, a
128GB SSD backed by a 1TB hard disk drive, a 17.3-inch full HD display,
Dolby Home Theater-compatible 2.1 speaker setup and even a Blu-ray
drive.
Worth considering
If your budget doesn't extend to four figures but you still want to play the latest games, then consider the Zoostorm 7260.
It costs £745 which might sound a lot for a laptop but is actually
quite cheap for a gaming one. What makes it a worthwhile bargain is the
fact that it packs a quad-core Core i5 processor clocked at 3.5GHz
together with a GTX 960M GPU equipped with 2GB GDDR5 memory. Add in a
full HD 15.6-inch IPS display, 8GB of RAM (double it to make full use of
the dual-channel), 120GB SSD AND a 1TB SSHD drive and you get a very
compelling gaming notebook.
4. Ultrabook deal of the week
Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro
Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro
Price: £729.99 at Lenovo
Lenovo
is clearing out the Yoga 3 Pro ahead of the widespread introduction of
the Lenovo Yoga 900. The Y3P, as it is commonly known, can now be had
with a 14% price reduction which brings it down to a slightly more
palatable £729.99. That is relatively cheap considering the
specifications: a gorgeous 13.3-inch QHD+ touchscreen display, THAT
incredible hinge that allows it to convert to an ultra thin tablet, 8GB
of RAM and a 256GB SSD cap what is certainly one of the best Ultrabooks
on the market. Just bear in mind that only the grey model is available
at this price.
Also consider
It is one of the cheapest Ultrabook laptops on the market and is also one of the best value for money as well. Meet the Asus Zenbook UX305,
a model that costs only £599.97 at PC World and promises up to seven
hours battery life. It runs on an Intel Core M processor together with a
13.3-inch full HD display, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. Asus engineers
somehow managed to cram three USB 3.0 ports and a HDMI one as well. At
just under 1.2Kg, the UX305 fails to match the likes of the new MacBook
when it comes to battery life or svelteness but then, it is almost half
cheaper.
5. 2-in-1 hybrid deal of the week
Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro
Laptop: Toshiba Protégé Z10T
Price: £450 at CCL
A
lot of 2-in-1 hybrid laptops tend to have entry-level components in
order to keep prices down. That's not the case of the Toshiba Portege
Z10T which is a tablet with an active keyboard docking station. It is
part of Toshiba's business portfolio and is classed as a VPro-capable
ultrabook. You get a dual-core Intel Core i5-4220Y processor clocked at
1.5GHz, 4GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD and a 11.6-inch full HD IPS display.
Even though it is an ultra portable device, it still features two USB
ports, a micro HDMI one as well as a Gigabit connector. As expected, it
runs on Windows 8.1 Professional and will be upgradable to Windows 10.
Also Consider
If you want something slightly different to the Asus Transformer Book of last week, then check out the TF100TAM.
This 2-in-1 hybrid costs £274.99 at Expansys and while it doesn't
include the 500GB drive, it does make up for it by having a more
powerful processor, the Z3775, a bigger internal storage capacity (64GB)
and a better battery life (up to 11 hours according to Asus). The rest
of the specification remains the same: a detachable keyboard, a
10.1-inch 1366x768 display, 2GB of RAM, one year subscription to
Microsoft Office 365 Personal and Windows 8.1 (upgradable to Windows 10).
6. Apple deal of the week
Apple MacBook Pro RD
Laptop: Apple MacBook Pro 13.3-inch (2015)
Price: £899.99 at Ebay/Zavvi
If
you haven't tried Ebay to buy your laptop, then it is well worth the
while. Many retailers (PC World, Dabs) often try to flog clearance or
end-of-line products but not always. Zavvi, for example, sells the 2015
edition of the popular Apple MacBook Pro
with Retina Display on eBay. It features a dual-core Intel Core i5 CPU
clocked at 2.7GHz, 8GB of RAM and 128GB flash storage, which may well be
too low for some users. Other than the acclaimed Force Touch trackpad,
this laptop also comes with a 13.3-inch 2560x1600 WQXGA display.
Also consider
The new Apple Macbook Air,
on sale on eBay via e_cell, costs just under £690, a small but welcomed
discount from Apple's RRP of £749. Much has already been written on
that ground-breaking laptop; just bear in mind that this is an imported
model but still has the full Apple warranty. This particular model comes
with a dual-core Intel Core i5-5200U processor, an 11.6-inch LED
display with a rather disappointing 1366x768 pixel resolution, 4GB of
RAM, 128GB flash storage and a 38Whr battery which should power the
laptop for up to nine hours.
