Nigerians react to Tribunal’s decision on Akwa Ibom gov poll

Mixed reactions have continued to trail Wednesday’s ruling of the Akwa Ibom State governorship tribunal, which ordered for a rerun of the April 11 governorship election in the state.

The Justice Sadiq Umar-led Tribunal held that it observed election in some other local government areas did not comply with the provisions of the law, adding that 566,436 voters were disenfranchised as against 890,000 voters in favour of candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Udom Emmanuel in 18 local government areas‎.
The Tribunal thus, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct re-run election in 18 LGAs which included: Eket, Onna, Ibeno, Oron, Udung Uko, Oruk Anam, EtimEkpo, Ikono, Ini, Etinan, Nsit Ubium, Ibiono, Uyo, Uruan, Ibesikpo, Nsit Atai.
Recall that candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umana Umana had approached the Tribunal, challenging INEC’s declaration of Udom as winner of the election.
