Obosi community stands still as Igwe Iweka celebrates Obiora annual cultural fiesta

For four consecutive years now, the traditional ruler of Obosi Kingdom in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Majesty, HM, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III has celebrated the Iwa-ji and Obiora Obosi annual cultural festival since he ascended the royal throne in 2011. Although the age-long festival had been celebrated by successive monarchs in the community, up to the immediate past Igwe Obosi, late Josiah Nwakoby, the festival appeared to have been modernized in such a way that it has started attracting dignitaries from all walks of life.

This year’s two-day ceremonies feature the conferment of chieftaincy title of Chinyelugo Obosi on Chief Osita Orji, chairman of Ugwuagba Obosi Landlords Association and awards/post humours awards to both the living and dead prominent indigenes of Obosi for day one, and the commissioning of a 500-seater capacity auditorium ICT built by Nkemefuna Foundation for day two. The foundation was founded by Chief Osita Benjamin Chidoka (Ike Obosi), former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC and former Minister of Aviation.
Among the dignitaries that attended the occasion for for the first day was the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke and the Ovwie of Abraka Kingdom, while the day two event attracted Governors Willie Obiano and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Anambra and Enugu states; Wife of Kaduna state Governor, Mrs. El-Rufai; Ambassador Ojo Maduekwe, Senator Uche Ekwunife, Chief Chika Okafor of the Chicason Group;   the Deputy Comptroller of Customs in-charge of Zone C, Owerri, Mr. Igwita, among others.

At the day one Obiora festival proper, Igwe Iweka III honoured late Chief Chimezie Ikeazor (SAN) the Oboli Obosi and the late Chief Godwin Mbanugo, the Ogene Obosi with a post-humours awards, while Chiefs Tomothy Efobi, former Chief Executive Officer of Delta Steel Company; Chief Kenneth Obi, Chief Executive Officer of Zikora Farms and Agro Allied Limited; Chief Molokwu Okechukwu, Chairman of MOSCO Group of Companies Limited; Professor Comfort Monago, a lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Sciences, University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT and Nze Philip Ikeazor, Managing Director/CEO of Keystone Bank were each given community services awards.
At the commissioning ceremony of Nkemefuna Foundation, the founder, Chidoka explained that the purpose of establishing the foundation with ICT center was to re-invigorate Igbo language and culture which he said is currently at the brink of extinction, as well as to eradicate illiteracy in that part of the country.    Highlight of the ceremony was the thrilling of the audience by the Southeast Chorister group and the popular Ajofia masquerade from Obosi.
Earlier in an address, the Obosi monarch commended the state Commissioner of Police, Hassan Karma and his state Anti-Cult Commander, Dickson Osamwonyi for their outstanding anti-cult policing which he said they have likened to the work of America’s FBI.
