The Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW), has said that its
31st Annual National Conference and Annual General Meeting, billed for
November 17-20, at Women Development Centre, Awka, the Anambra State
capital, will afford delegates the opportunity to brainstorm on how to
liaise with the National Assembly and other stakeholders for the passage
of the long overdue Social Work bill.
A statement by NASoW National President and Secretary, Olawale
Nathaniel and Jamilu Musa, said the conference is themed “Promoting the
Dignity and Worth of People,” as well as “Evidence-Based Practice:
Contemporary Issue in Social Work practice,” “Peace & Conflict
Resolution in Social Work” as its sub-themes.
The statement added that the delegates and other stakeholders in the conference will brainstorm on how to liaise with the national assembly and other stakeholders for the passage of the long overdue Social Work bill.
Trained Social Workers, with Diploma, Higher National Diploma, Bachelor of Science, Post Graduate Diploma, Master, Doctorate certificates in Social Work, Social Development and Social Work and Administration who are alumnus of UNIJOS, UI, UNIBEN, UNICAL, LASU, KADPOLY, PLAPOLY, JIGAWA POLY, and other institutions where Social Work is offered and other workers of Social agencies in Nigeria and in the Diaspora are expected at the conference.
The lead paper will be presented by Christy Obikeguna of the Department of Social Work, University of Nigeria (UNN).
Highlights of the four-day program include award of community service/Human Development to outstanding philanthropists, installation of Grand Patron and patrons.
The statement added the Conference/AGM is a forum that provides opportunity for education, reflection, negotiating and broadening the horizons towards professionalism.
