Determined to reposition education at the primary school level,
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the State Executive Council’s 11th meeting,
yesterday, approved the procurement of N1.5 billion loan facility for
the provision of counterpart fund to enable the State Universal Basic
Education Board to access the World Bank grants for the development of
primary schools in the state.
The government said it was part of its drive to reposition primary schools in the state to meet the demands of the millennium.
In a press briefing at the end of the Council’s meeting presided over by Governor Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele, noted that the grant would enable government to renovate some primary schools in the state that are in dilapidated state, among others.
According to the Commissioner, the council had also approved the award of contract for the construction of a bridge across Ebonyi River at Ikem to a reputable company, COMAG Construction Company.
He added that the bridge would be of immense benefit to the people traversing to neighbouring towns like Obollo Afor, Obollo Eke and to the Northern part of Nigeria.
