Is this our first glimpse of the Samsung Galaxy S7?

Is this our first glimpse of the Samsung Galaxy S7?

We've heard quite a few rumours about the Samsung Galaxy S7, but so far we haven't seen it. Now though there are at least some renders which purport to show Samsung's upcoming flagship.

The leaks, which were obtained from accessory manufacturer ITSkins by GSMArena, aren't the highest quality, but they do reveal the shape of the phone.

If they're to be believed the Samsung Galaxy S7 will look an awful lot like the Samsung Galaxy S6, with the same slightly curved - and likely metal - edges and broadly the same port and button positions.

The only big difference is that the home button is very rectangular here and looks a little worse for it, but perhaps that won't be the final design.

Sizing it up

The leak reveals the apparent dimensions too, with the standard Galaxy S7 coming in at 143.37 x 70.8 x 6.94mm, which is very similar to the S6's dimensions of 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8mm.

We say "the standard Galaxy S7" because there's also a larger model in the mix here, with apparent dimensions of 163.32 x 82.01 x 7.82mm. That's even bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and close to the size of the 6.0-inch Galaxy Mega 2.

Such a large flagship seems unlikely, given that we've recently had the Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. But it's not the first we've heard of it, as earlier rumours have pointed to a version of the S7 with a screen of up to 5.8 inches. So it is possible.

For now, this should all be taken with a massive pinch of salt. Even if the leaks are accurate they could be based on early prototypes.

But accessory manufacturers do often get hardware details before the launch of a new phone so they can have cases ready, and with some rumours stating that we could see the Galaxy S7 as soon as January it's very possible that accessory makers would know the dimensions by now.
