It seems like we only just got the OnePlus X, and even the OnePlus 2 hasn't been out for long, but now there are leaked images supposedly showing the OnePlus 3.
The images, which were leaked by mobile-dad, are renders – and even if they're real they probably don't show the absolute final design, given that the OnePlus 3 probably won't arrive for a good few months.
They're also simple enough that they could easily have been faked, so we wouldn't attach too much weight to them.
A whole new look
That said, it would be interesting if the OnePlus 3 does incorporate the design changes suggested by the renders. For one thing there's no sign of a fingerprint scanner this time around.
Again, this could just be because they're early renders, but it could also be that OnePlus is planning to use a different technology – iris scanning perhaps? We very much doubt it would ditch the fingerprint scanner without offering something even more impressive.
The build materials may have changed too. It's hard to be sure given the lack of detail in the renders, but the back appears to have a plainer, smoother look than the sandpaper-like default rear of the OnePlus 2.
While some of these design elements seem suspect, the accompanying specs sound a lot more believable, with the source claiming the OnePlus 3 will have a Snapdragon 820 processor and a 1080p screen.
OnePlus has stuck with 1080p this long, and the Snapdragon 820 is likely to be the flagship chip of choice in 2016, so none of that comes as much surprise.
Of course, even if all these claims are true there's a good chance that elements of the build and specs will change before the OnePlus 3 launches – because, you know, phones.
- Before the OnePlus 3 though, we'll see the Samsung Galaxy S7.
