The selfie-loving Sony Xperia M5 will hit the UK after all

The Sony Xperia M5 isn't exactly a new smartphone – it was launched back in August 2015 – but it's finally going to land in the UK almost six months after first breaking cover.

And that's something of a surprise, as Sony said at the launch of the M5 that the phone wasn't coming to the UK.

You can now pre-order the Xperia M5 at Mobiles.co.uk and Carphone Warehouse, with the handset available on a number of tariffs from O2, EE, Vodafone and iD. You can pick it up for free on contracts starting at just £19 per month.

As for a release date, a spokesperson for Mobiles.co.uk told techradar that units were expected in the week commencing February 1, with the pre-order page noting February 3 as the delivery date for orders. Meanwhile Carphone Warehouse reckons handsets will land in hands on February 8.

Budget brilliance?

The Sony Xperia M5 is an interesting proposition, with an affordable price tag and some standout features including a 21MP rear camera, 13MP front camera, waterproof body and 5-inch full HD display.

There's also an octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage plus a microSD slot which supports cards up to 200GB, and a 2600mAh battery.

That means it has a larger, higher-resolution display, more RAM, a thinner body and a considerably better front-facing camera than the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact.

We can't wait to get our hands on the Xperia M5 and put it through our review process, so keep an eye out for that.
